The Tuono V4R is part of a race apart among roadsters: one designed to orbit you, when others are content to atomize the limits of the road. It is not for nothing that Aprilia is a three-time Superbike world champion; and this excellence in sportiness is found not only in the RSV4 but also in high doses in its streetfighter Tuono. Big, very big watts! A chassis to desolder bends! Electronics derived from factory motorcycles! You have been warned. But let’s not stop there and let 2014 add a touch of additional efficiency.
Totally intoxicating, the V4 at 65 ° wins the respondent. From 167, it climbs to 170 horses. Reduced internal friction, revised exhaust and improved maps allow this mill to be more squeaky and responsive. A true mix of punch, adrenaline and Red Bull awaits with the twist of the right grip.
Before unpinning the grenade, you better know that the chassis will hold up. No worries about the Tuono V4R: it’s Superbike without the fairing. The 10 kilogram aluminum perimeter frame and reinforced swingarm are maintained. In contrast, Sachs provides a new 43mm full adjustable fork and Brembo deals with M432 monoblock radial calipers. All the suspensions have been recalibrated to offer a little more comfort on the road. The new saddle a little more conciliatory and the ergonomics somewhat retouched go in the same direction. And so that the pleasure lasts a few more times, the capacity of the tank goes from 17 to 18.5 liters. Not a luxury when you know that the big V4 gluttonous in good doses.
At Aprilia, we can’t imagine serving you a block of dynamite without adding advanced electronics. The Tuono V4R is fitted as standard with Bosch 9MP APRC and ABS. The latter can be disconnected, and has 3 intervention laws (Track, Sport, or Rain). The roadster is fitted with 3 injection maps and its Aprilia Performance Ride Control pack receives an update. Mainly concerned are ATC traction control (8 levels of adjustment) and AWC anti-wheeling (3 levels). The Ride-by-Wire, the AQS shifter and the ALC standing start assistant (also 3 levels) are always responding to them. Fortunately, you don’t need to plug in a laptop to handle all of this; everything is done from a control on the handlebars.
Let’s announce it right away: this new chapter of Aprilia TuonoV4R promises to be even more successful. And yet, the previous Tuono was already a damn good machine. Fierce, sporty, thunderous, this high-ranking roadster is held by the electronic fairy but will require pilot skills to extract the quintessence..
