Salvation will come from the exception, the beautiful, the taste, the excellence. This is the bet of Avinton, a small brand from the south with an ambition that is both artisanal and luxurious (formerly called Wakan). Under this name tinged with English perfume hides the mainly hegaxonal production; except the engine and a few peripherals, but we’ll get to that in due course.
Avinton does not ride a motorcycle. Avinton creates envy, that for aesthetes. The flavor of barely grilled meat, without sauce or salt, served on a slate board; metal that grabs your eyes to the tip of your tongue; a burst of lava that freezes your hand. A chimera? No, an Avinton, forged in the crucible of raw sensations, with one of the most charismatic inspiration: the AC Cobra.
Minimalist, almost wild, arched over its engine and armored with beautiful pieces, the Avinton Race is as much at home in a collection as in the palpitations of a winding road. It seems demanding, asserts itself uncompromising, fascinates the impassioned by its realization. Right away, the motor hits your retina. It seems to have exploded in the frame in order to feel comfortable there. A big twin, like the customers of this kind of machines. Old-fashioned, air-cooled, with heads generously trimmed with fins, and almost raw metal, without the pollution of various hoses and aerospace technology.
It comes from America, from the famous manufacturer S&S. Its 1,647 cc still smells of the acrid smell of Wisconsin foundries. Here, by Ride-By-Wire, injection or electronic trivia; a good fat 41mm carb and belching watts of phenomenal fat of torque. Forget the pretensions of a Twin Cam – the S Block&S is of a different ilk: it develops no less than 120 horsepower at 5,750 rpm. What to put beautiful slaps in the acceleration. Especially since the maximum torque value is enough to turn a vertebra over you. At 3000 revs, the curve is tightened toc by the 17.1 mkg available to the mechanics. Maousse !!!
Avinton doesn’t just anchor this engine in the steel beam frame (acting as an oil tank). The brand requires some specificities. For example, the 5-speed gearbox is of the extractable type, the crankcases and certain parts are created by Avinton, and above the fake tank, there is an unusual and hypnotic gluttony. A butterfly air intake system, like the compressors of some American muscle cars. Unique signature! Fierce … Superb.
Details are not everything. Let us also count on certain references able to titillate the lovers of the past and the winks of eyes: as on the AC Cobra of the 60s, the pinion of the gearbox is manufactured by Andrews; the beam frame measures 3 inches in diameter, like the tubes of the famous car’s chassis; the lighthouse is at 2/3 scale; the body is crossed with bands "Shelby"… To taste :-).
In the heart of Gard, in the small town of Sommières, Avinton’s workshops passionately assemble high-end components that will make its machines much more than motorcycles. With its elistist prices, there is no question of finding the level of quality of a Japanese or an Italian (already very well made). Here, it’s the French-touch, glamor, champagne, haute-couture. The attire of an Avinton is only peripheral of high rank. Beringer for braking, with a 6 piston caliper on a 335mm track … or two, it’s up to the customer. Aluminum parts cut in the mass, or kneaded from carbon, an inverted Ceriani fork of 46 mm, Marchesini wheels … Each element seems sculpted for her. But all of this is just the start! Indeed, the Avinton Race is a lady who is taken to a jewelry store; the latter being the choice of finish to perfect and personalize its beauty. The spirit and the equipment change according to the pack you choose: Original – Vintage – Deluxe – Grand Sport – Super Snake – Cult. The more you climb in the trim levels, the more refined the attention, the more noble the materials, the more your person is taken into account. Demonstration: in the Grand Sport series, the suspensions are calibrated to the weight of the pilot, the Beringer braking is a quadruple disc with 12 pistons, etc … In Super Snake, the stitching of the alcantara saddle is matched to the body color, it – even available in a choice of 16 million colors. For the most demanding, the Cult finish allows you all the delusions: modification of the body shape, trim in carbon, leather, gold or set with diamonds, grafting of a compressor. The limit exists only by the imagination of the future owner, and the generosity of his bank account. For the moment, the top of the Cult finish has reached 78,200 euros.
