BMW K 1300 R 2013

The big K-series fighter was one hell of a testament to a ‘new generation’ BMW. The most road company, bourgeois, cushy some would say, had just given birth to the most powerful roadster in the world. With 163 hp and a hallucinating mouth, the K 1200 R feared nothing and no one. With this road monster, the HP2 Sport, the K 1200 S missile and the future S 1000 RR, nobody looks at BMW in the same way anymore..
But Japan reacted. The title of supreme power roadster has now passed to the Suzuki 1300 B-King. His enormous power will allow him to keep this title for a while. In Munich, we did not try to overtake him; we refined, improved, retouched the K series, and here is the replacement of the big German beast: the K 1300 R.

Bigger engine, more power, more weight. By taking cubage, the K 1300 R also took 6 kg in the tines, or 243 kg all full. An overweight compensated by 10 additional horses and 1 mkg more, especially between 2000 and 8000 rpm. From the top of its 173 hp, the new K is n ° 2 on the podium of the most powerful naked on the market.

The 4-cylinder went from 1,157 cm3 to 1,293 cm3 on the 3 K models at the same time. Only the horsepower varies somewhat depending on whether it is installed in the S, R, or GT. But in each case, the numbers are proudly on the rise. To stick to its roadster temperament, the K 1300 R adopts a final reduction gear that is shorter than the 1300 S in order to boost acceleration. The reinforced torque does not come only from the increase in displacement: look at the pot…. Yes, it’s shorter, but that’s not it. A valve is integrated into the exhaust to manage the outgoing gas flow and modulate the sound of the appendix. In short, an EXUP à la BM.

In terms of geometry and agility, the longer wheelbase is offset by the steeper inclination of the Duolever front end. The 180 tire is held in place as the spring and damper setting has firmed up. By digging into a few options, we can add the ESA II to adjust the suspensions with a boost. And if you like sport, you can boost the new selection mechanism with the shifter of the HP2 Sport, or even change the dashboard for the 2D digital handset of the same 1200 HP2, as on the sport-GT K 1300 S.
For more comfort, the roadster handlebar is taken from the K 1200 R Sport because it is decoupled from any vibration. Added to this are the Japanese standard commodos.

Not really obvious but nevertheless revised, the look of the K 1300 R reinforces its aggressiveness. A more full-bodied shoe, redesigned scoops and mudguard, white indicators, a little more nastiness, here is something to continue the momentum of the 1200.
