Ducati 1200 Multistrada DVT Pikes Peak 2017

Have you ever been to Pikes Peak? Me neither, and not many people around. The Ducati 1200 Multistrada on the other hand, it loves to climb up there. And win the race on top of that. The Italian trail has won 4 times in its category on this hill climb among the toughest in the world. A will of metal and dust to make its way through the heavens. It is therefore almost natural that the brand offers the MTS in a Pikes Peak version, after a short absence; to get better on the way back ?!?

Certainly, because a Multistrada has heart to spare. And it shows it cheerfully with a “Ducati Corse” decoration of the most beautiful effect. The scent of white landing on the red dress dominate the gaze, instinctively captured by the exhilarating appeal of the Bologna sportswomen. And so it is: spicy in its Pikes Peak dress, the Multistrada is resolutely sporty with its equipment that smells of arson more than walking on roads and trails. Only the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires and the (adjustable) saddle height maintain the illusion of a trail. Otherwise, it’s tough.
A Termignoni carbon exhaust, that corresponds to the character of a sprinter. Wind protection loses a bit with the sport screen, also in carbon, but the style is much more established. And to perfect the connections to the ground, a nice panoply of elements Öhlins will boost the general efficiency of the machine. The large inverted 50 mm fork and the TTX 36 shock absorber are adjustable in all directions, without giving in to the sirens of the electronics and a controlled system. The 1200 Multistrada Pikes Peak thus intends to charm lovers of fine tuning with little onions and tools. Connoisseurs will appreciate it. But most will regret not being able to adapt with a flick on the commodo when the mood changes (comfort, rigor, travel, passenger, etc …) The differences are concluded with red stitching on the saddles and. … a little more carbon; for the front fender, the trim in front of the tank, the rods around the fork crown.

The Pikes Peak edition recovers elements of the MTS 1200 S, such as the color TFT instrument panel with Bluetooth, the IMU inertial unit, the fully LED headlights with lighting in the curves and heavy braking with 330 mm discs and Brembo M50 calipers. On the 1200 Enduro, it stung the VHC hill start aid.
Common to all Multistrada, the large on-board electronics include driving modes (Urban, Touring, Sport and Enduro), active cornering ABS, traction control, anti-wheeling, cruise control, backlit commodos and keyless start (well, in the pocket).
Silicon, sensors, algorithms, digital delicacies … but what takes the Multistrada to the top of Mont Pikes or for a walk in the Vercors is above all its engine. A large twin recently fitted with DVT variable valve timing. A beautiful gas plant in the cylinder head to offer more flexibility, chest at mid-speed and a strong ladle of power at the top. Without hesitation, the 160 horses of the Italian maxi-trail-sport will catapult you from turn to turn without leaving much time to catch your breath. But with the Riding Modes, the Multistrada will be able to adapt to less muscular uses. The main gnashing of teeth is still the same, inherent in the high caliber machines made in Bologna. The price ! The 1200 Multistrada Pikes Peak charges dearly for its race against the clouds.
