Model of passion and exclusivity, the Ducati 900 MHe, descendant of the MHr, has carved out a reputation for its many virtues. At the top of the list: design. Magnificent, seductive, carefree, the MHe is a work, a timeless link between the current audacity of Ducati and the prestigious victory of Mike Hailwood in 78 on the Isle of Man, at the Tourist Trophy.
But above all, it remains a Ducati. You just have to go up there to be convinced. Half-handlebars very low, ass in the air and legs curled up, it’s sport and without concessions. Maneuvering the beauty is as simple as that of a bus in an alleyway. And do not expect anything friendly from the seat. Green wood and pots that heat the buttocks in less than two. We then give thanks to the derisory autonomy that allows us to take healthy breaks.
Let’s stop bitching and take advantage of our fortune. The magnificent exhausts release a contained voice. Infuriating from such a thrilling model. This does not detract from the character of the twin. Stung at the 900 SS, the mill is exciting: very flexible, it pushes with a good effort to reach 5500 rpm, then delivers watts to the peak of maximum power. I can already hear those who growl:"for the price and the image, they could have put a mill of 996…" Yes, but what prevails over the MHe is the aesthetics. We would have gained in potato but hoses everywhere and the big mess of the distribution, it would have been much less becoming than the twin with fins. And above all, this mill, it frankly resembles that of the champion’s wheel. To accentuate the resemblance, a false oil pan is installed under the desmo.
Riding this motorcycle is a privilege, but nothing confusing. the motorcycle does not require special instructions. The chassis is very good, the machine stable, even on irregularities in the road, but does not like to be violently abrupted; otherwise, we quickly reach our limits. To enjoy it, it is better to roll up. It is precise, changes angle naturally thanks to its lightness and brakes with excellence.
The slightest stop is a pretext to admire this jewel. We drool over the sublime tubular swingarm, the chrome crown holder and its stainless steel BTRs, the exceptional cockpit, and quite simply the plastic of the MHe. A very demanding machine, with a mythical name and a unique personality.
