the HM 939 cube in reality 937 cm3; let’s not be surprised, the brand has several times "of life" the name of these models in relation to their actual displacement (the 916 SPS, the 749, the 1098….).
To go from 821 to 937, the engine manufacturers started by pushing the walls, increasing the bore from 88 to 94 mm. The stroke remains at 67.2 mm. Inside, we also change some strategic pieces. Crankshaft, cylinders, pistons and cylinder heads are revised. Injection side (52 mm) and anti-dribble clutch, no need to touch it.
Few stylistic changes between the two generations of hypermotard "liquid". Almost nothing, we could clarify. To recognize the 939, we will pay attention to the increase in size of the silencer and the appearance of reflectors at the bottom of the fork tubes – one of the legacies of Euro4. Technical side, few changes also. Just enough to make it even more lively with a reduced wheelbase of 7 mm. Whether it is 821 or 939, the machine has something to amuse as much as to be brilliant in efficiency. The steel trellis frame is true to the house tradition, firmly holding a 43mm inverted fork. It cannot be adjusted, but the mono-shock absorber yes, in rebound and preload. The machine has taken a little weight, 6 kilos, but the braking will have no trouble calming the game. The 320 mm discs with Brembo 4 piston radial calipers will crash you quickly; the 245 mm rear disc with a 2-piston caliper will simply stabilize the machine in a bend that is too bold.
The ABS is in reinforcement, and even more. It acts on 2 levels, one sporty and the other more reassuring. And can be deactivated for seasoned pilots. Like any Ducati, it is not alone in installing itself in the wiring. The 939 Hypermotard prides itself on offering 8-level adjustable traction control and 3 driving modes, each intervening in its own way on ABS and DTC. Sport mode sends 113 horsepower with optimal throttle responsiveness, traction control is not too intrusive and anti-lock is as efficient as possible with moderate rear wheel lift management. In Touring, it is still the maximum power but a more progressive arrival, a more intrusive DTC and the ABS is in mode 2, working for maximum stability. Urban mode lowers power to 75hp, DTC kicks in even more and ABS responds in mode 2. Each Riding Mode can be adjusted to suit the rider’s preferences..
Let’s stay in technology with LEDs present in the rear light and the front position light. The headlights are not (yet) full LED, road lighting still relying on bulbs.
A toy for adults, the 939 Hypermotard has to deal with two pitfalls. First, its saddle height. Its large suspension travel, 170 and 150 mm, increases ground clearance while raising the seats to 870 mm. It’s starting to do, and it’s one of the tributes of the category. An optional low saddle allows you to descend 20 mm.
You must also like the bike enough that you accept almost exclusively recreational use. That said, if you’re looking for a little versatility with the same base of fun, the Hyperstrada 939 has a more civil arguments. In contrast, the SP version pushes the sport into more muscular entrenchments.
