Timeless and unmissable, the Electra relentlessly continues to traverse the roads with the poise of its splendor. The Harley liner inherits the Twin Cam 96 and its new vigor. Fuller, more present, more vigorous, the 1584 cc returns to oblivion its predecessor. The 1450 sometimes struggled to revive, with a breath that European standards had stifled. This 96 cubic inches has a lot more trunk, over a wider range of use. In short, happiness. The new 6-speed gearbox benefits from a softer selection, still with that little Harley bitterness.

On the handlebars of this Touring, scrolling through the landscape in cruiser mode is essential, with all the bliss that emanates from it. Comfortable seating, business class protection, senatorial driving, you can enjoy the trip. No need to rush her, she won’t mind. The 400 kgs of the machine does not help liveliness when it comes to giving big gas (overtaking, catching up with friends….) Or twirling around corners. The chassis does not offer the rigor of its competitors, and it rubs quickly on the sides when the pace increases. I told you: cruising.

But that all changed in 2009. Like the entire Touring range, the Electra Glide got a new chassis. Thanks to a new robotic welding process and a new frame shape, the steel frame has half the parts for 20% more rigidity. A modified swingarm, 17-inch front wheel, revised engine isolation system, wider rear tire, and re-calibrated suspensions brilliantly change the handling of the Milwaukee long-haul. Especially well-hidden ABS is standard, as is Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), Harley’s electronically controlled throttle. Now, no more excuses…. except the price, still well above reasonable.
