The Electra Glide has been consuming road for several decades, in a masterful style to the rhythm of inimitable pulsations. Luxury version of travel, it can only be supplanted in the hearts of bikers by the super luxury version, the Limited, or the ultra luxury demonstration, the CVO Limited. In 2014, this GT-cruiser underwent a host of improvements related to the Rushmore project.
Rest assured, line, philosophy and majesty have not changed. The MoCo has refined, improved, revisited life on board and the use of the Electra Glide Ultra Classic. The quality and finish are on the rise, as is the performance of the Twin Cam. Or rather should we say Twin Cooled. This block from 1690 gains a new camshaft, an air box which breathes better and above all water cooling. At least partially: only the top of the engine sees the fleet transit. Coolant is routed through the cylinder heads in the area surrounding the exhaust valves, and the heat exchangers are located in the lower left and right fairing arms. Well stashed the buggers. The precision cooling system is thermostatically controlled, and uses an electric pump to circulate the coolant.
The Twin-Cooled 103 offers 10.7% more torque and 10.6% more horsepower than the standard Twin Cam 103 engine as well as an inflated compression ratio of 9.6: 1 to 10.1: 1.
More watts but also firmer clutch springs. Harley compensates for the effort with a new clutch control. A step towards more rigorous handling results in a beefier 49mm fork, REFLEX brakes balancing the braking force between front and rear, remaining paired with ABS, and new wheels in 10 spoke aluminum.
Progress in comfort can encourage taking risks. The Rushmore project called for touching an almost sacred element of the Electra: its fairing nose. If Harley had missed the drawing, the anger of the bikers would have been formidable. Mission accomplished with a subtle revision, the main evolution of which is a judiciously placed slot, the result of 3000 test sessions. A button "One-touch" allows you to hide it with a finger pressure. New lower fairings also help improve protection.
Alongside the famous Batwing, the lighting is also evolving, with a Daymaker LED headlight assisted by halogen fog lights. Not content with offering more brightness, Daymaker technology visually brings a surprising modern touch and distributes 2136 lumens of luminous efficiency.
On the Electra, the passenger is pampered. With 2014 and Rushmore, the surface of the seat is increased, the shapes of the backrest and the armrests revised, the Tour-Pak offers 4% more capacity although it is more compact, the bags are also larger and s’ open at the touch of a button "One-Touch", and…
Wait, what is this "One-Touch" ?
One of the concepts from the Rushmore: a single push for easy unlocking. Something to simplify your life when you handle the elements provided with this philosophy, namely the fuel tank hatch, the suitcases, the Tour-Pak, and each compartment cover.
Once the miles go by, two camps clash: addicts of the mechanical rattle, and those who would like to share a little music. The Electra Glide Ultra Classic now features a very modern infotainment console. The name speaks for itself, the whole BOOM! BOX 4.3. It includes a 4.3 inch color screen (size of a Nokia Lumia), 25 watts per channel, 5.25 inch speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and front buttons. Better: to control it, a 5-way joystick is placed to obey the thumb.
Already firmly anchored in the world of highways like rolling sofa, the Electra Glide Ultra Classic takes full advantage of the Rushmore project. Improved from start to finish, it wants to enjoy the road more than ever. The appearance of liquid cooling has not finished causing cause, just like the cost of coughing, and the attractive power to strengthen.
