For many years, the Combined ABS-Braking System has provided users with a unique sense of confidence in emergency situations, even when the wheels are likely to lock up causing loss of control. But never has a system been developed with enough finesse, efficiency and compactness to be suitable for a sports car of the caliber of the Fireblade. Developing a combined-ABS system capable of meeting the requirements of such a machine was a challenge. Although it was not designed to increase performance on the track, the electronically controlled combination-ABS braking system is so sophisticated and efficient that even seasoned riders have to repeat it several times before surpassing its capabilities. . In the end, the added confidence provided by the combined-ABS system in emergency situations or on slippery surfaces is absolutely indisputable..
For the first time, a super sports car is therefore capable of offering a very high level of performance
while benefiting from all the confidence brought by the presence of a combined-ABS system.
The system consists of a combined system with electronic control “brake by wire” equipped with an original and innovative pressure sensor which measures the pressure applied to a control (lever or pedal) and controls a servo motor which actuates directly and with a extreme precision calipers. In addition, all the components necessary for the operation of the system are divided into several small sub-assemblies, more numerous but also more compact so as not to interfere with the centralization of the masses or the compactness of the machine.
The efficiency of the system is based on 4 main parameters:
1. Electronic CBS control, allowing more precise control of braking forces. This also allows a finer distribution of braking forces between the two wheels..
2. The measurement of the force applied by the pilot on each control. The ideal braking force on each wheel is generated accordingly, providing optimal distribution and minimizing machine reactions.
3. An ABS “modulator” which guarantees a late and gentle entry into function of the ABS.
4. High compactness which means that the components can be ideally integrated into the motorcycle, including respecting the principle of mass centralization which is essential on a sports car..
Now available as standard on CBRs, Combined ABS is not mandatory but an option. It’s up to you to choose your sports car, with or without. Between the two, only the decoration, active safety and a few different elements. The ABS model includes new trim pieces that protect the components of the ABS system: an extension of the shroud houses the front servo motor near the engine while at the rear a trim piece placed under the seat covers the electronic control unit.
From the point of view of general design, engine and chassis, point of modification for this model which was already transformed last year. Sportiness, control, safety, driving pleasure – The skill range of the CBR 1000 is expanding. It only needs this little extra to become essential on the track. But since we are more often on the road than between the vibrators, with a clear predisposition for safety, the appearance of ABS could well save us from a few fairings and quite a few bowls. Only problem: the weight. With this assistance, the CBR 1000 loads more than 10 kg additional.
The 2010 vintage is distinguished by a new sharper rear with a new translucent lens light, an exhaust outlet with aluminum trim and 4 new colors. On the mechanical side, enthusiasts will remain hungry: only the inertia masses of the crankshaft have been optimized. These enhancements were made to absorb fluctuations in the torque curve. The alternator flywheel has been enlarged while the stiffness of the crankshaft has been increased (+ 6.87% in inertia masses) to match the new characteristics of the flywheel. This progress has been achieved without increasing weight, thanks to the use of lightweight components such as aluminum cylinder head mounting bolts, thinner exhaust tubes and a more compact cooling fan motor. Prices range from 15,690 euros for the standard version to 16,690 euros for the C-ABS.
Honda has also planned a few parts to pamper the Fireblade:
• A selection of carbon parts specially developed for the Fireblade, including a fender
front that protects the fork tubes, a rear fender (non-ABS version only) that protects
the inside of the chassis and the protections of the alternator and ignition cases.
• A wheel arch in matching colors that protects the shock absorber from projections (non-ABS version
• Carbon-style tank protection as well as a filler cap cover with HRC logo.
• A seat cowl in matching colors which takes the place of the passenger seat to strengthen
the sporty image of the CBR1000RR.
• A set of “Racing” stickers for the fairing and wheels.
• A screen homologated and raised by 27.4 mm for a more dynamic image and enhanced protection. The instrumentation is also better protected from the sun. Available in clear or tinted black version with Honda Racing logo.
• A set of nylon fairing protectors that limit the risk of damage to painted parts.
• A pilot saddle using a specific elastomer (Honda patent) for unparalleled comfort. With
CBR logo and different patterns
• A bag that can be installed on the passenger seat when needed.
• A tank bag.
• A compact AVERTO alarm with motion detector, siren and battery. The kit has a low power standby mode that protects the battery from total discharge.
• A U-shaped lock designed to take place in the space provided under the passenger seat.
• A stand that lifts the machine from the end of the swingarm to facilitate servicing of the rear wheel.
