Morini GRANPASSO 1200 2008

The GranPasso unveiled at the Milan Motor Show does not only increase Morini’s offer on the 2-wheel market; it also allows the Italian brand to come and tickle the selective wholesale road trail market. In this sector, the BMW R 1200 GS dominates the market and serves as a benchmark. The transalpine response will come from two sides: the Moto-Guzzi will have to attack on the road / comfort level with its 1200 Stelvio; For his part, Morini has chosen a more sporty approach without forgetting the road / trail aspect.
A wide saddle inspiring comfort, long travel suspensions, tubeless spoked rims with mixed tires, a windshield showing a certain protective disposition, a 25 l tank, an engine spoiler: the Gran Passo seems ready for tourism, and even a little way. The options suitcases, GPS, heated grips, etc … will not make you fear to cut down on the kilometer.

But an Italian is distinguished above all by her temperament. And sportiness and character have not been sidelined on the Morini trail. Its chiseled and aggressive build has nothing of the kindness of a Varadero. The style (coming from the Marabese Design studio) is present, daring, even disturbing with its lenticular optics – a matter of taste – and provides the essential: get noticed. Its Star Trek posterior decorated with a pot raised with 3 holes also plays with the eyes. Gaffe; the visual is only a prelude to the promised services. The 1200 engine is the same as that fitted to the Corsaro, a spirited roadster and not just a little. No power or torque figures yet but we can bet that they will be adapted for more roundness.
Aside from their travel, the suspensions are more reminiscent of a hypersport rather than those of a trail: shock absorber Öside mounted hlins with adjustment of compression, preload, rebound and height, inverted fork muff 50 mm in diameter -> the Italian trail promises to be of leading efficiency. The braking system is wiser, more suited to this type of machine: Brembo with 2 pistons by caliper biting 2 front discs 298 mm in diameter; but controlled by a radial pump.

Since the disappearance of the Guzzi 1100 Quota, Italy has been very discreet in the segment of high-legged machines. And there, in a few years, the tide has turned. Multistrada, Tre-K, SMV Dorsoduro, Stelvio, and now Granpasso – the offer is becoming tempting, for all tastes, and this Morini is not just going to be part of it.
