Franco Morbidelli passes the six at the Sachsenring! The Italian rider, confirmed in MotoGP with Marc VDS in 2018, signs his sixth victory of the Moto2 season and takes a considerable lead in the world championship before the summer break.

Report and results.

A weekend to forget for Alex Marquez, who was first stolen from pole position by his teammate Morbidelli on Saturday before falling heavily the next day in the first laps of the Moto2 German GP… Marc Marquez’s younger brother has then followed the race from his box, back and neck aching from the impact of his motorcycle after his slip.

Meanwhile, Franco Morbidelli was heading for his sixth win of the season after losing – 21 laps from the finish – by Tom Lüthi, who started out at the head of this ninth race under an overcast sky but in dry conditions. Fiercely determined not to let the leader of the world championship slip away, Lüthi in turn made a mistake in a right where the Swiss had entered too wide. First white result for the n ° 12, which gives a lot of ground to Morbidelli in the championship !

The victory then seemed to "obediently" extend its arms to Morbidelli, lonely at the helm of the Grand Prix with two seconds ahead of Miguel Oliveira. But the latter whipped his KTM like hell, to the point of reaching the junction with the leader and attacking him on the last lap! Faster at the entry of curves, "Francky" managed to pass the Portuguese driver again to win under the checkered flag !

The results of the Moto2 championship

Thanks to his victory and the crashes of his direct rivals for the title, Alex Marquez and Thomas Lüthi, Franco Morbidelli is further widening his gap in the provisional Moto2 standings: the rider Marc VDS now has 173 pts on his clock, 37 more than Lüthi. Miguel Oliveira and Alex Marquez follow behind in 3rd and 4th position with 114 and 113 points respectively. Fabio Quartararo, 9th in Germany, is 16th in the provisional.
