WSBK - Statements from World Superbike riders in Misano - Statements from the 2nd WSBK round

The eighth round of the 2016 World SBK took place this weekend in Misano, Italy. To complete our near-live reports, here are the statements of the Superbike riders at the end of their two Italian races.

WSBK Round 2 Statements

Jonathan Rea, 1st:
"My pre-race goal was reached, so I’m super happy! I really wanted to win here, for a lot of reasons, and winning the double is amazing. I like to race here because I got the first victory of my Superbike career there. Mid-season is approaching and I have said several times how good the next two tests before the summer break (, Editor’s note) were going to be important. Responding to this weekend’s meeting is really good".

"The strategy for the second race was a bit different. I got off really fast yesterday, but today we used the benchmark 377 rear tire and I think that made the difference. I want to say a big thank you to Pirelli because they also brought the 375 tire, the one we used for the first race and for the first time this weekend, as well as the 377 with which we won the second race . It was the same tire that we used to, so it works in both colder and warmer conditions which is very strong of them. Well done to my team too because we changed the bike a lot compared to the first race, and we were able to save our tire a little more.".

Tom Sykes, 2nd:
"Today, I think I wasn’t as strong as I wanted to be, but it’s also likely that Jonathan found a little something more. It is in any case the impression that it gave. Two second places and pole position, I agree it should be an acceptable weekend, but Jonathan is the one we fight with in the championship and we have lost some ground. There are still five events left, so we still have plenty of time. But I don’t fix myself on it yet".

"We are going to do tests in Misano tomorrow and I hope that we will have good conditions because I really want to solve a problem: it is about the turns in fact, it was very clear in the first sector of the circuit. today. We will continue to work to improve the situation because I want to win races"

Davide Giugliano, 3rd:
"We were very disappointed yesterday because we had a strong pace, but a crash knocked us out of the battle. We knew we could bounce back today and we took another small step forward with our setup for race two. From the start I tried to manage the tires because I was expecting Rea and Sykes to slow down in the second half of the race, like yesterday. But that did not happen. Anyway, it was important for us to get back on track and I want to dedicate this podium to Fabrizio Pirovano (, Editor’s note) and his family".

Xavi For├ęs, 4th:
"I am really happy with my race today! After all the unforeseen events that happened in the last few races, we finally managed to get the result that the whole team was waiting for. This morning, we had a problem that prevented me from taking part in the warm-up. I was worried that this would put me at a disadvantage as the track conditions have changed a lot compared to yesterday. During the first few laps, with a full tank, I didn’t feel good, but then I felt comfortable on the bike. Giugliano was already too far away and I couldn’t fight him for the podium. I hope we will be able to repeat this performance at Laguna Seca !".

Luca Savadori, 5th:
"It was a good race for us, the only regret concerns yesterday’s crash. Today we had the pace of the leaders, but the fall of Davies made our group lose contact with Fores. Unfortunately Hayden, Lowes, Torres and I had the same lap times and in the end we couldn’t get the Spanish in fourth place. I remain satisfied to have managed to get a fifth place which is good for me, for Iodaracing and for the guys from Aprilia. This weekend has gone better and better. On Friday we weren’t quite ready and then we progressed steadily, going from SP1 to SP2 to reach the second row. I only regret the fall in the first run. It makes me happy to be in the Top 5. The goal is to stay there as long as possible to maintain our progress. The next race will be on a track that I have never seen before, at Laguna Seca in America. I will try to learn it quickly with the help of the team".

"I was hoping to bounce back with a better performance after yesterday’s disappointment. I got off to a decent start, but in turns 1, 2, 3 and 4 I ended up being out of step and not aggressive enough. So I lost a lot of places in the peloton. Then I started to feel better on the bike, despite going straight into the first corner at one point. From there my pace improved a bit. If I had to take one positive point from the race, it would be to have recorded my best time on lap 19. It was a little too late: I was coming back to Savadori on the last lap after passing Torres. Sixth place is surely not a disaster, but it is also not something to be overestimated. I’m a little disappointed with my performance today and will try to make up for it in Laguna".

Jordi Torres, 7th:
"Honestly, I’m happier today than I was yesterday. I’m sorry for the fall this morning, it was unexpected but luckily it wasn’t too serious. In warm-up we tried a different tire that seemed to offer more support, so we chose two totally different tires for the second race. We took that risk and I think it paid off. I got off to a good start but quickly realized, passing very close to a crash, that while the tire offered more support it also provided a little less grip … There is always a trade-off. , I suppose. Overall, despite the final position I’m happy because we took a calculated risk and the path we took turned out to be good".

Alex Lowes, 8th:
"Today’s race was much better. The grid position wasn’t great, and losing three spots on the last lap and a half of the race was obviously unfortunate, but I was struggling a bit with my physical condition at the end. However, there are a lot of positives to take away as I did a better job than yesterday, I continued to attack and the bike was good. We finished eighth and I’m quite frustrated because I still can’t drive the YZF-R1 the way I want it to for the whole race. I can’t wait to get my health back and show what the bike is capable of in the next two races !"

Note, dear readers, that the MNC analysis will be exceptionally zapped due to the WSBK tests which are taking place at this very moment on the Misano track … However, stay tuned to Site to read the report of these tests tomorrow. !
