Gone are the days when MV-Agusta manufactured motorcycles in small quantities. Today, each model is placed with beauty, sportiness AND strategy. In charge of the 1090 to fight on the segment of armored power brutes. Meanwhile, the 675 is sintered with the little terrors that are the Street Triple and Monster.
This is where the new Brutale 800 fits. Eight cents? Yes, right in the thick of the market where the Z 800, FZ8 and GSR 750 are evolving; the middle of the mid-size, where you want to become strong in style and mouth.
Huge resemblance to the 675? Not just a little. The 800 only asserts itself in engine capacity and technical improvements. For the design, it’s copy and paste. Not so bad, because the silhouette of a Brutale, 675, 800 or 1090, is always a real treat for the eyes. With its thick brute body compacted as much as stretched to the maximum, its trellis frame enclosing the engine as closely as possible like a garter belt marrying a languid pelvis, its tapered rear shell, and its magnificent rear axle symbiotically combining the single-sided arm, the wheel libertine and the 3 escape micro-flutes accompanying the black rubber hoop, the Brutale accumulates the pretexts at will.
Its engine, flirting with the limit of 800 cm3, is equipped with a displacement unheard of in Varese, but it is not an unknown block. It is the 675 in bigger, fattened in displacement by an increase in the stroke (from 45.9 mm to 54.3 mm). As a result, a host of advantages in the operation: the engine is neither more bulky nor heavier, the use of the same components allows economies of scale, and its strength crosses a threshold more than noticeable. Compared to the 675, this moulbif produces 16 better horsepower (125 to 11,600 revs against 109 to 12,500) and more than 1.5 mkg additional (8.25 to 8600 revs against 6.63 to 12,000). Special feature of the Italian 3-cylinder, on the roadster as well as on the F3 sports car: the counter-rotating crankshaft, turning in the opposite direction.
With only 167 kg, or 4 more than the small Brutale, for a good load of watts, the MV announces the agility of a 600 and the power of a 1000.
Technically, the 800 and 675 share frame and peripherals. But the Brutale average advances a weighty argument: the suspensions. Improving the damping on the 675 proves impossible, because only the shock absorber has an adjustment, the preload; or then, you have to go shopping at the props.
Change of scenery on the 800. Prepare the screwdrivers and the delicacy of the settings: the inverted 43 mm fork and the shock absorber are here fully adjustable, namely in preload, compression and rebound. Enough to adjust the behavior of the machine to your enthusiasm.
No change in terms of the brakes, already formidable: double 320 mm disc with radial 4-piston calipers at the front and a 220 mm disc with double-piston caliper at the rear – Brembo of course. After becoming widespread on 4-cylinder models, ABS invaded the Tre Pistoni range in 2014. The Bosch control unit, 9MP version, is very small, very light, and is also disconnectable.
Passion, a sculptural line, a sporty Italian chassis, and on-board electronics. The 800 Brutale unites under the name MVICS (Integrated Engine Control System) & Vehicle) ride-by-wire, 8-level traction control and choice of mapping (4 modes: Sport, Normal, Rain, and a fully configurable character) and the EAS shifter is installed as standard. Equipment that some hypersports would envy.
Complementary and sportier than the 675, the MV-Agusta 800 Brutale is presented as a roadster of choice. At more than 11,000 euros, it fits ideally between the youngest 675 and the muscular 1090. Now, the Brutale range can satisfy all lovers of roadsters with sensations; even more in its RR version, more spicy and full-bodied.
