MV-Agusta’s new roadster: the 800 Dragster. A name synonymous with pure adrenaline, martyred gum, hellish acceleration and devilish power. Its size and design make it a muscular machine with a truncated ass, even more collected on itself than is cousin Brutale. The finish is more flattering with an engine spoiler, stitching on the saddle and new Brutale 1090 type rims.
With his surname, we hoped for a pure phew thing, with horses puffing up everywhere and a tire slaughtered in 3 red lights. In reality, the Varese factory did not create a crazy machine like the Harley-Davidson V-Rod Destroyer, for example; rather a wilder version of the 800 Brutale. The Dragster is also equipped with the same 3 cylinders of 798 cm3, still delivering 125 horsepower at 11,600 rpm and 8.3 mkg at 8,600 rpm. It is not on the side of the power figures that we will have to look for a difference between the 800 Brutale and the 800 Dragster. MV did not modify the maximum power of the 3 cylinders but the way it is delivered, with a faster and more linear response. Enough watts in any case to hold onto the handlebars firmly. And that’s where the 800 Dragster’s cockpit makes the difference. The handlebars are mounted on axles that can be adjusted to 3 positions.
The on-board electronics is the MVICS 2.0 platform, which extends to the entire MV-Agusta range. It includes 4 driving modes working with engine management, traction control, ride-by-wire throttle sensitivity, engine braking, torque curve, etc … Also installed are the EAS shifter and Bosch 9MP ABS.
The chassis is almost identical to that of the Brutales, distinguishing itself with a large 200mm rear tire. Otherwise, we find the mixed frame aluminum plates / tubular steel trellis with an inverted Marzocchi fork of 43 mm, a Sachs shock absorber, the single-sided, Brembo brakes of 320 mm with radial calipers 4 pistons. We never tire of the lightness figures put forward by Varese’s productions. The engine block weighs only 52 kilos, and the 800 Drasgter placed its weight at 167 kilos, just like the Brutale.
Let’s take a step back. So, yes, the MV-Agusta 800 Dragster is a nice aggressive machine. His posterior is beautifully drawn. Its front face gains in aplomb with a dashboard cover end, rear end mirrors and fender support plates. The passenger will have more room on his footrests than on his end of the saddle. But in the end, it’s not a new bike; it’s a Brutale with a (superb) grinding stroke in the butt, a little more sporty temperament and some cosmetic specifics. Another version of the style that allows you to choose between the streetfighter and the "Mad-Max-roadster".
