The Suzuki Virus Suisse is dynamite !

After 7 seasons of testing on the handlebars of ultra powerful or unreasonably expensive bikes, it is still the first time that a press manager has warned me about a bike….

And yet, she seems very wise in her white livery and all stripped. The look of a lambda biker could almost confuse it with a GSR 750.
Until the moment we switch on the ignition !
I’m not a big fan of noisy motorcycles, but we have to admit that this double carbon exhaust, in addition to a death look, emits a sound from beyond the grave !

I let the boiler of the GSX-R 1000 heat up by going around the owner.
The mini retro left does not bode a great retro-vision, the saddle of a few millimeters leaves no doubt as to the comfort and the small nose screen does not promise great protection on the highway…

After 3 weeks on a Harley and a few days with my FJR, I developed bad habits to crutch a motorcycle.
When I put a big blow of the hamstring to raise the Virus, I almost found myself on the ground … but on the other side, I had put so much force into it…
And yes, the Virus weighs less than 180 kg! Coupled with an announced power of more than 185 hp, it actually promises me good times this week.

On the way.

I go first, the driving position is quite special. Between the straight bust of a roadster and the bent legs of a sportswoman, the heart of the Swiss swings.

And so, why Switzerland ?

For those who do not know, the Virus is initially a body kit that the Garage Virus offered as a replacement after a crash or to transform their GSX-R into a roadster..
Following the success, it was decided to export the concept to the largely successful plastic.

Okay, back on the bike.

The departure is done quite carefully after all these warnings, and yet the bike is extremely manoeuvrable and docile..
After less than a kilometer, my route takes me off the highway.
I take the long entry ramp to test the setting on the angle, I lean, I lean and I don’t know if these are the reminiscences of my day at Mettet, but I find myself rubbing my knee on the ground. Problem: I am not in leather but with my Gore Tex pants and it hangs. When the motorcycle is full angle (well at the maximum of the rider!) And the knee tries to go under the motorcycle, it is called: first fear !

Despite this, I am really stunned by the ease of handling.
3rd, 4th, the engine is full of resources (with a torque of 117 Nm at 10 000 rpm) and allows to wind in 6th at 130 km / h.

The traffic increases as we approach Brussels and I start to play gas to make room for myself between the cars. I admit that it’s so that the cars hear me coming, that for pleasure, I make the engine scream…

I left the traffic jams of our dear capital (and it was about time since the engine was starting to heat up unpleasantly). The road is clearing and I finally have the opportunity to make the power speak. A motorist not very quick to clear the lane "oblige me" to drop two reports.

I am therefore at mid-speed in 4th (for those at the bottom who do not follow), a little bit of the cirette to mount it in a wheelie, which is completely useless given the power, and I put the watts !

I pass the five and 2/10 (it takes more than 255 in fifth, theoretically when equipped with a concrete shot)

And then the 6 to resume my cruising speed, but just the fact of cutting the gas sends me in a guidance from beyond the grave … Hot hot anyway 😉

The week continues between my daily trips not always calm and long surprise walks.
During these trips, I did a little jump in the paddocks of Mettet. And there, no recognition worries, the pilots present identified the full sound of the GSX-R 1000 in free version (well, I admit that once again, I put out big gas shots) .

Considering the very good weather during my week of testing, I did not need to test the three engine maps, so one for the rain. I did try several times to drive in the less powerful mode but the temptation to switch back to Full was too great !

Finally, what to think ?

The Suzuki Virus is a fabulous second motorcycle.

Its playful behavior, its disproportionate power and above all the lack of equipment to make everyday life easier make this bike devilishly intoxicating! Despite that, I see every day bikers who, out of passion, endure the inconvenience and lack of comfort of their motorcycle. So I imagine that the Virus could appeal to real passionate bikers. But at 17,870 euros the end, it hurts, even if you "receives" the original parts of the GSX-R.
Personally, but don’t tell anyone, I’m dying to have one in the garage !
