After a long wait, Suzuki launched into the fight for big streetfighters. A ring where performance and muscles come directly from hypersports. Forget the missed episode of the B-King, make way for the GSX-S 1000 generation. Blood and GSX-R backbone, metal fumes and raw sharp edges – this big rogue roadster shows its fangs…
And velvet in its F version. Given the enthusiasm for the Kawasaki Z 1000 SX, Suzuk ‘did not want to miss a clientele attracted by a hitchhiker AND roadster roadster. So, a piece of fairing, some specifics and here is a GSX-S 1000 F ready to eat the bends with vigor. But not only.
A piece of fairing, did I say?!? A nice group in fact. In the past, we grafted a fork crown, like on the ex Fazer or Bandit 1250 and then it’s fed up. The GSX-S 1000 F is dressed from the tip of the muzzle to the lower abdomen. The lines are taut, with a lot of softness and a fighter plane look. With a final visual feeling of sport-GT? Not too much ; it almost smelled like the big scooter. It’s not pejorative but a machine of this appetite deserves better than to be compared visually to a super-Burgman..
Would a neophyte be mistaken? Not sure: with an inverted 43mm fork, a heavily dimensioned frame and a little red S on the sides, a good smell of powder comes to us from the bowels of the GSX-S Fairing..
The block that lives in there, it will bring back sacred good memories to the trackers. A 4-cylinder 999 cc, injection and double throttle, which made the heyday of the GSX-R 1000 from 2005 to 2008. Nothing less than the best hypersport engine of the time. In the GSX-S, it is deflated to 145 horsepower (well almost ;-). Big muscle, inserted hierarchically between the Z 1000 and the FZ1. Enough to afford a few sweats but a hint of disappointment remains between the teeth: the echoes augured of a cavalry of 160 horses, just to stand up to the BMW S 1000 R and Aprilia Tuono V4 1100.
Between the GSX-R of the time and this roadster, 40 horses were eclipsed. Different camshafts have been installed to promote availability in mid-range, i.e. more fishing available in winding roads and tactical skirmishes.
And although the 4-legged does not spit out as many watts as the top of the basket, there is still enough to get a good mess. The pilot opens, the watts tumble … The electronics are not far away. ABS and traction control are standard. The latter has 3 intervention levels plus the possibility of being disconnected.
With its wide fairing at the shoulders and its bubble in search of the chin, the GSX-S 1000 F will provide additional protection. A good point which will try to fill the lack of practical aspects. No support for integrated suitcases (like the latest Kawa) or passenger handles; a very incisive stinger stern but little in line with the company of a top-case; the windshield is not adjustable and what about a central stand?!? We can put all this into perspective by situating the Suz in its niche: a big streetfighter with a suit for the road. As a result, more attention is paid to the Brembo radial 4-piston brake calipers, the 310 mm brake tracks, the Renthal fatbar handlebars and the frame structure..
Put an SBK-style engine in that bike and it wouldn’t be able to twist it on you. The swingarm comes directly from yesterday’s GSX-R 1000. The main frame is slightly different but of a very Gex design. Strong aluminum sections for optimal rigidity and a lower weight than the frame of the former large GSX-R. The beast wants to be elegant in its finery while being kneaded in the efficiency of Hamamatsu’s sports machines. The confrontation with its automatically designated competitor, the already mentioned Kawa Z 1000 SX, promises beautiful exchanges of adrenaline and sly glances.
