Fun but underpowered when it was released in 865 cm3, the Thruxton finally expresses all the exhilaration and technique that one is entitled to expect from a machine releasing so much character. Like the standard version, it is fitted with the all new 1200 twin from the Bonneville revamped for more power on the Thruxtons. The basis is the same: a twin cylinder set at 270 ° with 8 valves, injection and Ride-by-Wire, 6-speed gearbox and anti-dribble in the clutch. The differences are more in depth. The Thruxtons benefit from a lightened crankshaft, an increased compression ratio and a specific air box. As a result, the mill delivers more power, which will have to be fetched at a higher speed. 11.4 mkg are available at 4950 rpm, a big half a mkg more than on the 1200 Bonneville T 120, and 62% more compared to the old 900 Thruxton. Lightened by around twenty kilos compared to the Bonneville, the Thruxton R is also boosted by 17 additional horses. With 97 units in the twin, this café-racer does not usurp its identity and promises great sporting moments.

But what shakes the eye and the adrenaline is the specific equipment of the R. A much more efficient suspension set which consists of an inverted Showa fork and rear shocks Öhlins. These elements are fully adjustable and ensure not only a superior road feel but also an additional touch of superior elegance. In the same spirit, a painted backsplash sportingly finishes the typical single-seater saddle, the upper triple clamp is polished, a strap runs through the tank, the swingarm is anodized and the conical exhausts are here in brushed stainless steel..
Besides, the lady does not pretend to be excited; she accepts her desires to the end. The spoked rims are fitted as standard with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires, those that feel more of the track than the road. Braking is also Italian style. Brembo supplies the Thruxton 1200 R with the master cylinder, two discs and radially mounted 4-piston monobloc calipers.

The bike shows off its sporty dimension while hiding sophisticated technology under its classic dress. On board we find ABS, anti-skid, LED daytime running lights and rear lights, a USB socket, an immobilizer by coded key, digital windows in the double counter displaying a host of information, and a choice of three injection maps – Road, Rain and Sport – (the 1200 Bonneville has only two on board). The paroxism is reached with the kit "Track Racer" and its fork crown transforming this café-racer into a real sports car of yesteryear. Triumph has planned two customization kits and a catalog of 160 parts to crack SA Thruxton. However, only the R model can receive the additional kit "Factory Race". Specially designed for the track, it will lighten the machine and tap the engine to obtain more power (between 110 and 120 hp) and torque.
