Triumph 1200 TIGER EXPLORER 2012

Expected, spy-shot, and barely masked, Hinckley’s new big trail finally shows up and puts forward serious arguments. To enter the hypercompetitive trail-GT niche, where the BMW R 1200 GS reigns supreme, it needs solid arguments..

Behind his silhouette of 800 Tiger XC inflated with steroidsïdes, the Tiger Explorer launches without restraint in the sharp angles and the long voyage. It will be powered by a new 3-cylinder of more than 1200 cm3. Advertised for 137 hp, this block shares very few elements with the 1050 which equips its more sporty brother. The latter remains in the Triumph range for 2012, and will satisfy customers of lively trails designed for the fast ride.

The 1200 Tiger Explorer will appeal to long-range travel enthusiasts. Its 19- and 17-inch spoked rims and mixed tires immediately set the tone: no rally-raid and just a jaunt on dirt roads. And to shake up the references of the segment, the Explorer arrives with a large equipment: large 3-cylinder engine, new chassis, universal joint and single-arm (according to our information, the whole is very similar to BMW’s Paralever), control of traction, disconnectable ABS, cruise control and coded key (not too early); all as standard. In addition, all the functions of the dashboard scroll via a control bar on the handlebars.
In order to fit immediately into the top of the category, Triumph announces that in addition to the equipment, the factory has worked a lot on the engine character, comfort and handling.
