Retro lines to the end of the chrome, two-tone paint, an engine that seems to come from the 60s, the Bonneville plays the card of the "revival", like the Kawasaki W 650. Difficult to access, the ignition key is hidden under the left turn signal. Starter to carbs, pressure on the starter and the twin purrs. The two overhead camshafts and the super-square dimensions (bore greater than the piston stroke) smooth out vibrations. Soft and torquey, the engine is pleasant, without being impressive. In 2007, the twin swells in displacement, displaying the cubic capacity common to all versions of Bonneville, namely 865 cm3. 5 more horses are on call and a good additional mkg. 2008 is the death knell for carburettors and the welcome for injection (hidden behind false carbs). The series of modifications continued in 2009 with the adoption of a 17-inch front wheel, new spoke rims, the transplant of Thruxton mufflers, and modified, shorter mudguards. The gearbox, despite a fairly short first, and the clutch contribute to the overall smoothness. Astonishingly quiet operation for a twin wedged at 360 °. Only the whistle of the cast shocks the ouïe. The Bonnie therefore prefers a leisurely stroll to the arson or long sections of highways. The ramage matches the plumage. The 205 kg dry are easy to handle and forgive clumsiness. The handling is good and the course is reassuring. Like the engine, the cycle part does not like being abrupt. The poorly padded / hard saddle and rear shocks lacking travel, spoil comfort. Braking is consistent with the peace of mind of the motorcycle. The Bonneville is not the Bonnie one could hope for, but she proves to be a faithful companion for Sunday walks.
