Let’s be honest, the previous 900 Tracer could well envision travel. And the trip where you can have a good time as soon as the road turns a little, or even a lot. The main limitations, or faults, were the hard saddle and the luggage available as accessories; semi-rigid saddlebags not moderately top to leave serenely in other regions.
So be careful, do not immediately conclude what might seem obvious: this is not a Tracer with a suitcase kit. Yamaha has gone much further to make it a more rewarding and successful motorcycle than this simple conclusion.
The GT is clearly more upscale. And you can feel it right away when you get on board with the beautiful color TFT screen. It doesn’t display anything more info than the rich dual screen of the 900 Tracer std, but it really looks good. It is controlled from a wheel on the right stalk. Then the suitcases. Matched to the color of the bike, they have a capacity of 22 liters but above all, they are fixed in the anchorages of the rear part much more easily and elegantly than the optional bastard kit on the old Tracer. And if you have FJR suitcases lying around in the garage, you can interchange them to increase cargo capacity..
The heated grips? Essential. The 900 Tracer GT thinks of comfort but also of sport and cruising thanks to the joys of electronics. Want to laugh? The 115 hp CP3 asks nothing better than to bark and take you to a forbidden but so good pace. A shifter comes to assist the box to squirt the reports with a kick. Then, when the road becomes longer, we can call on another friend, the cruise control..
It comes from the MT-10. Controlled from the left stalk, it operates from 4th to 6th gear, in a speed range between 50 and 180 km / h. One stroke of the brake, clutch or accelerator and it deactivates.
Where the 900 Tracer GT scores another serious point is on the suspension side. The fork becomes fully adjustable and the rear shock absorber shifts its preload adjustment via a wheel easily accessible under the rider seat. The bike will be able to be better recalibrated when the crew or the mood changes.
The GT will then be able to benefit from all the evolutions that Yamaha has brought to the classic 900 Tracer, such as the revised protection, the revised handlebars, the refined style, the improved saddles. And the preserved qualities of the old one, namely the sparkling 3-cylinder engine, the 3 injection maps and the 3-level traction control, the 18 liters of the tank for long stages, the central stand and the 12V socket.
With the 900 Tracer GT, Yamaha offers a very tempting road that will have fun on demand. The equipment is rich as well as rewarding although some points can improve. All it needs is a comfort saddle and a larger bubble to be on top. On the other hand, the price will also be of the higher caliber and this Tracer will no longer be as accessible as the basic version. We will almost go so far as to say that it is not the most important. Because the missions that this crossover-GT can accomplish will not fail to attract more than the curious.
